In this update, we've published two new articles: Default Settings in SyncBack and Run SyncBack Profiles Using Hot Keys. Also, when SyncBackPro/SE V10 was released, we included numerous performance improvements, and below we discuss two of them.

New V10 Features

SyncBack V10 included many performance improvements, two of which were the introduction of Rapid Transfer in SyncBack Touch and balancing the amount of memory that SyncBackPro should use when running profiles.

Rapid Transfer uses a dedicated data-only connection to a SyncBack Touch service to transfer data as quickly as possible. In most situations it is much quicker than when it is not used. However, care must be taken as it can easily use all available bandwidth. To use Rapid Transfer you must be using SyncBack Touch V1.5.0 or newer along with SyncBackPro/SE V10 or newer. When creating your profile in SyncBack, you must enable the option "Enable Rapid Transfer" in your SyncBack profile. You should check your firewall ports are open (by default port 8080 and 8081). Refer to the SyncBack help file for more details about Rapid Transfer.

SyncBackPro can reduce memory usage by using storage space, instead of memory, while a profile is running. It does this automatically without any user intervention or configuration. However, you may want it to use more memory or less memory, depending on your situation. For example, you may have little memory but lots of quick storage. In that case you may want SyncBackPro to use as little memory as possible. To do this: go to Global Settings -> Expert and change the Memory Usage setting as appropriate. Changing this setting will affect performance for profiles that have tens of thousands of files (or more). Increasing memory usage may actually slow down profiles with hundreds or thousands of files (or more).

Default Settings in SyncBack

Profiles in SyncBack are highly configurable with a large number of settings available. SyncBack includes features to help manage the settings, e.g. shared settings, copying settings from another profile and variables. Another method is default settings, which is covered in this article.

Run SyncBack Profiles Using Hot Keys

Profiles in SyncBack can be started in numerous ways. They can be run manually or automatically via a schedule, periodically, when files are changed, etc. Another way is to have them run when a hot key is pressed. The hot key can either be configured in Windows or in SyncBack.
