Below are the important release dates so far for the SyncBack family of products:

V12.1.22.0 SyncBackPro, SyncBackSE, SyncBackFree (1st October 2026)

New (Pro): Support for using 1Password as a secrets manager
New (Pro): Support for using Dashlane as a secrets manager
New (Pro): Support for using Bitwarden as a secrets manager
New: Shared Settings can now be removed from multiple profiles without them being deleted
New: The %SBLATESTVERSIONONLINE%, %SBNEWVERSIONONLINE%, %SBLATESTMAJORVERSIONONLINE% and %SBNEWMAJORVERSIONONLINE% variables. These check online even if unattended.
New (Pro): Option to record emails that cannot be retrieved as a warning and not an error (for backup email)
Updated: %SBLATESTVERSION%, %SBNEWVERSION%, %SBLATESTMAJORVERSION% and %SBNEWMAJORVERSION% variables no longer check online during an unattended run
Updated: SmartFTP has been completely removed (was deprecated in V9.3.40.0, July 2020). WeOnlyDo will be used instead by default.
Updated: Optimized refreshing of profiles in main window
Updated: If attended, installer age over 120 days old, and permission given, installer will check if latest version
Updated (Pro): HashiCorp Vault secrets connections now support AppRole authentication and version 1 of the KV secrets engine
Fixed: Work-around for AVIDFOS file system giving incorrect error codes for path not found
Fixed (Pro): User interface could stop responding while profiles were running if SBMS was slow to respond
Fixed (Pro): Profile run history now sent to SBMS on its own connection, so a slow server no longer blocks the user interface
Fixed: Detection of Administrator Protection (officially available in Windows 11, see KB5120998)
Fixed: Multiple fixes related to Administrator Protection
Fixed: Encryption of settings, using Windows encryption, may fail on Windows 64-bit
Fixed: On the Decisions - Files page, the "Source overwrites Destination always" option was wrongly labelled "Destination overwrites Source always"

V12.1.6.0 SyncBackPro, SyncBackSE, SyncBackFree (9th September 2026)

New: Profiles can be compared to others or defaults
New (Pro): Option to force SFTP V3 protocol (not supported with wodFTP or SmartFTP)
New (Pro): New backup email variables %EMAIL_DATESTAMP% and %EMAIL_FROMDOMAIN%
Updated (Pro): Improved SFTP public key fingerprint extraction
Updated: Changed some text on Decisions->Files to avoid confusion
Updated: The network addresses used to search for SyncBack Touch devices are refreshed on every search, so network changes (Wi-Fi connecting, VPN, etc.) no longer require the window to be reopened
Updated (Pro/SE): Add profile's "Next Run Time" field to the data being sent to remote control/SBMS
Fixed (Pro): Backup of sent emails saved to wrong sub-directory and filename as sent emails do not have headers
Fixed (Pro): %EMAIL_FROMNAME% and %EMAIL_FIRSTTONAME% variables now correctly return the email address when there is no friendly name
Fixed (Pro): The %EMAIL_REPLYTO% variable now correctly returns the reply-to email address and not the reply-to friendly name
Fixed (Pro/SE): With Delta Copy, the whole file was being re-copied on every alternate run instead of a patch file being created
Fixed: Windows repositioned when using RDP and logged out (as monitor ID's are not saved between RDP sessions)
Fixed: Stop invalid characters being saved to settings files
Fixed: A corrupt or damaged profile audit database is now automatically detected and rebuilt (previously audit entries were silently lost)
Fixed: Removal of a drive during a profile run's scan is now reliably detected (the run is aborted, as the scan results cannot be trusted)
Fixed: Searching for SyncBack Touch devices now works on networks without a gateway, e.g. isolated networks and direct cable connections
Fixed: SyncBack Touch device search results are now processed on the main thread (avoids rare instability when devices were found)
Fixed: Profiles set to run when a SyncBack Touch device starts could run twice soon after the program started
Fixed: An MTP device that was connected and then disconnected while the program was starting is no longer treated as still connected
Fixed (Pro): Email backup using Graph API (Outlook, Exchange) had a limit of 128 sub-folders

V12.0.17.0 SyncBackPro, SyncBackSE, SyncBackFree (23rd June 2026)

New (Pro/SE): When using Advanced VSS can now log file what files the writers expect to be copied
New: Variables used in filters can now contain multiple filters delimited by a forward slash (/)
New (Pro): Interactive keyboard authentication available for all SFTP engines
Updated (Pro): Egnyte download parts retry
Updated (Pro): Added support for new Mega S4 endpoints
Updated: Taiwanese translations
Fixed: Taiwanese translations were Hong Kong translations
Fixed (Pro/SE): Remove any empty entries from the multi-Touch grid editor when saving profiles
Fixed (Pro/SE): Stop SyncBack Touch on macOS from resetting existing file permissions during file upload. Safe copies have to be disabled for this to work.
Fixed (Pro): Fix "Stream read error" during large file uploads to Egnyte
Fixed (Free): History settings page now hidden on Free
Fixed (Pro/SE): History settings page now visible on Pro/SE when max history set to zero
Fixed (Pro): In some very rare cases, setting the fingerprint algorithm for WOD SFTP may throw an access violation error
Fixed: The SyncBack process may not terminate when parallel compression is used

New: In the Differences window, Actions on folders are now recursive, i.e. they apply to child folders and files

New (Pro/SE): Run with prompting, e.g. you can change source and/or destination path before running the profile
New: A program can be run when all profiles end (like you can already do a shutdown, program exit, etc.)
New: When changing the source or destination path an attempt is made to put back the variables
New: A warning is shown in the VHD settings if AutoPlay is enabled
New: SyncBack uses the Windows Group Policy setting for filename sorting in Windows Explorer
New (Pro/SE): You can now set the text colour in the main window for profiles
New: Option to use colour images with a dark style
New: A profile can Log to highlight it not having been run
New: Tray icon now shows if profiles are running in another process
New: If a profile is selected in the main window, and it is running in another process, then its progress is shown (change from functionality in V11 and earlier)

New: Option to ignore file size differences less than x bytes
New: If a Windows directory is set to be case sensitive, then the log will now contain errors if files or sub-directory with different case are in the directory
New: A directory can contain a file named syncback.scan to have SyncBack scan the directory even if it thinks it has already been scanned
New: If a file cannot be copied, because it is locked, then pause before retrying
New: You can choose which file types to highly compress and which ones to use lowest compression
New (Pro): Azure cold restore options (rehydrate to hot, cold, cool and optional high priority)
New (Pro): Option to not retrieve from Glacier or Azure archive storage
New (Pro): Faster Google Storage uploading
