SyncBack Management Service V2.0.1.0 and Console V3.0.0.0 Update

The SBM Service and Console are now available.

The purpose of the SBM Service is to manage and monitor remote installations of SyncBackPro V6 (it cannot be used with SyncBackSE or SyncBackPro V5). With it you can:

- Limit what users can do with SyncBackPro, e.g. stop users from creating their own profiles.

- Track which profiles are being run, their results and their run history.

- Remotely manage SyncBackPro profiles.

The SBM Console is for administrators to configure the SBM Service, e.g. adding users, checking the profiles results, etc.

Communication with the SBM Service is via HTTP, TCP/IP, or name pipes, so it can be used over the Internet or via a Local Area Network. All communication is encrypted and access is restricted by using usernames and passwords.

SyncBackFree has every feature that the old SyncBack V3 freeware had and far more besides. No features have been removed.

Unicode: The old SyncBack V3 freeware could not cope with non-English filenames without tweaking settings in the Windows operating system. Even then it could only handle filenames in English and one other language. SyncBackFree can cope with filenames in any language.

Unlimited filename lengths: The old SyncBack V3 freeware could not use files whose total filename length was over 260 characters long. SyncBackFree has no practical restriction on filename lengths.

Selections and actions: SyncBackFree allows you to select, in detail, which files and folders to include in a backup. The options are far more powerful than were available in the old SyncBack V3 freeware. You can now also review the actions that will be performed and change them.

Newer versions of Windows: The old SyncBack V3 freeware was never tested or designed to be used on anything newer than Windows XP. SyncBackFree is designed for and tested on all versions of Windows from XP to the latest Windows 8. As SyncBack V3 freeware is an old program, it will work on Windows 98 and 2000 (neither of which are supported by Microsoft). SyncBackFree cannot be used on Windows 98 or 2000. Also, SyncBackFree cannot be used on server versions of Windows. If you are using a server version of Windows you must use SyncBackSE or SyncBackPro.

Interface: The old SyncBack V3 freeware had an interface that was designed in the days of Windows XP and never moved on from there. SyncBackFree shares the same user interface as the more modern SyncBackSE and SyncBackPro.

Logging: The old SyncBack V3 freeware logged everything in the HTML log files as they occurred during a profile run. This made the log files difficult to read as errors were mixed in with non-errors. SyncBackFree uses the same logging format as SyncBackSE and SyncBackPro which means you can easily find the errors and see what was copied and what was not.

Portable: The old SyncBack V3 freeware used the Windows registry which meant it was not portable, i.e. you couldn't put it on a USB key and use it on another computer. SyncBackFree is portable.

Compression: SyncBackFree uses a modern compression component so compression is faster.

FTP: SyncBackFree uses a modern FTP component so it works with a wider range of FTP servers.

Price Increases for SyncBackSE and SyncBackPro

The cost of licenses for SyncBackSE and SyncBackPro rose by 5% or more (depending on the volume of licenses purchased) as of 1st March 2011.

2BrightSparks notified all those on its mailing list in the December 2010 newsletter, and the download pages for both SyncBackSE and SyncBackPro also had a notification of the increase during all of February. This is the first price rise in over two and a half years and reflects increases in costs to software development - we continue to be committed to providing the highest quality software at the very best price.

Over five years after its initial release it's good to see that SyncBack Freeware still gets mentioned regularly in the press and media. On 28 January our payment processor eSellerate experienced serious network problems which resulted in intermittent store access for several hours.

This was the first occasion in over five years that our web store suffered down time. eSellerate worked hard on the problem and resolved the issue as quickly as possible.

Card payments on our web store are fully operational, however PayPal payments were temporarily suspended because of an integration issue caused by the network problems. eSellerate worked with PayPal and this problem was rectified by 30 January.

In UndeleteOnClick you can now preview images and text files before undeleting them (.jpg .gif). HashOnClick notifies the user of the number of matching hash values found in the clipboard, and will search the clipboard again for matching hash values if the clipboard contents changes. After its launch in August 2006, an updated version of FindOnClick is now released.

Search for files on any NTFS or FAT (FAT 12, 16, 32) partitions, including from hard drives (internal and external), floppy disks, flash cards, Smart Media (SM), SONY Memory Sticks, IBM Micro Drives, Multimedia Cards (MMC), Secure Digital Cards (SD), Zip disks, etc.

FindOnClick can now search multiple drives, network drives, for files and/or folders; use wildcards in filename extensions filter. There are also some other great new features and improvements. Read the History of Changes for the full details.

Note that Windows 95/98/98SE/ME is not supported.
