Regular Expression Filter

SyncBackFree is the freeware version of SyncBack. It is *not* an evaluation version of SyncBackPro/SE/Lite.

Regular Expression Filter

Post by bisonconstructions » Wed May 09, 2018 5:02 am

Hello I have a requirement that has the following folders
Four Digit Number - Council Docs
2345 - Council Docs

the four digit number changes but the following " - Council Docs" doesn't change.

I tried several Expression FIlters such as below but none of them will select folders with a four digit number the - Council Docs
[\dddd] - Council Docs\*.*
[\d{nnnn}] - Council Docs\*.*
[0-9]{4} - Council Docs\*.*

can someone give me a bit of a pointer
I have looked on this help page but can't seem to work it out.

Hi, are you using SyncBackFree, and simply typing your filter attempts into the pane(s) of the default dialog that opens when you clock the Change Filter button (on the Simple settings page)? That won't work for a combination of 2 major reasons

1) you would need to use the Filter menu on that dialog and set it to use Regular Expressions (by default it will open to the factory-default filter entries, which are DOS filters (and thus so is the entry mode)

2) If you look for the entry on the Filter menu you would need to use to switch filtering mode to RegEx, you will find it is disabled (ghosted) anyway, because SB Free & SB Lite do not support Regular Expressions. Only the SE & Pro variants optionally support RegEx (but new SE/Pro profiles also default to DOS filters unless/until you changed to RegEx (or Old V3, legacy) filtering already)

NOTE: I do not use RegEx personally as (a) I don't need complex filtering & (b) RegEx gives me a migraine  so cannot offer you any design tips, so > >

If you upgrade to SE or Pro and still need assistance (you can try them free for 30 days; no need to uninstall Free, they all install separately - do not try to install 'over the top') suggest re-post in the appropriate forum (SE or Pro)
