Problem: Sort by name in "Users" window does not work

Postby hhh » Thu Sep 13, 2012 8:49 am

I the Users window, clicking on the username column header should sort the users alphabetically by username.
This does not work, the sorting is pretty much random.

Hi

It works fine for me (just tested) but something may be glitching if you have a lot of users. How many users are in your system (table)?

Currently around 120 users, and we're adding a few more every week.

Hmm. Not so easy to try and replicate (using dummy users), then. I'll pass this to the development team to see if they can take a look 'internally' Could be some sort of SQLite issue, which is not something I can check from here.

Nope - still unable to replicate, sorry. We tried separately on several machines with more users than you have (at one point going up past 256, just in case anything binary/hex-related was going on, or was lurking).

We tested using random values, even including some negative ones, and it still worked fine.

You are still using the latest version (for Console, this is 2.2.1.0)?

Also you don't by any chance have anything odd in your user-names (e.g. Unicode)? Unicode characters do cause the sort order to look odd, because their actual character values are not as per the ASCII equivalents.

We're using console version 2.2.2.0, and there should be no non-standard characters in the usernames whatsoever.

Sorry,. yes, 2.2.2.0 (I was inadvertently one step behind, though I bet the developer wasn't :) ). But I just updated to 2.2.2.0, and same results - it works fine here. Can't break it.

I can't help wondering about that 'should'...unfortunately, it's not easy to check, as once injected, similar-looking characters are often indistinguishable visually.

Not sure where we go from here, sorry. If we can't replicate it...

Checking with the development team, the only thing they can suggest is to sign up for ticketed support, and submit a Support Ticket with a copy of your user.db attached. However, we appreciate that might be a bit sensitive, so it's up to you.

We certainly recommend sending it in an encrypted Zip, and send the Zip password some other way - maybe as a PM to myself or MickyJ. Or, via a Contact Form marked for our attention.

By default the d/b is at C:\ProgramData\SBMService\users.db

I think the issue was that it was sorting using case sensitivity. We've changed it for the next release to be case insensitive on some of the columns when sorting.
