Breaking task scheduler changes in Windows 10 Anniversary Update (10.0.14393)

Postby mickyj » Thu Aug 04, 2016 6:13 am

As is often the case, Microsoft have broken the task scheduler in the latest Windows 10 update (Windows 10 Anniversary Update - Version 10.0.14393). If you have profiles that are set to run if you are logged in or not, then they will probably fail to run (The requested operation requires elevation (0x800702E4)). There are no known problems with profiles that are set to only run if you are logged in or those set to run without a password being used (so they can only access local resources).

We've just released a new version (V7.6.28.0) to fix this. You can download it here:

http://www.2brightsparks.com/assets/sof ... _Setup.exe

To fix the profiles that are not working:

- Select the profile in the main windows and click the Schedule button.
- You may now be prompted for your Windows login password. If so enter it and click OK.
- Click the Edit Schedule button
- Untick the checkbox Run interactively if user logged on at the bottom of the window
- Click OK to update the schedule

You'll need to do this for all schedules that are failing.

I upgraded to Windows 10 Anniversary Edition (10.14393) in March but have only recently realised my daily backups have been failing (it would have been nice if SyncbackSE had told me!!!).

The stated fix is to install the latest version of Syncback V7

however, I am using SyncbackSE V6.5.49.0 (upgrading to V7 is too expensive.

How do I get hold of the fix for version 6?

Hi,

Sorry but support for V6 has ended since V7 came out (around Q3/2014).

Thanks,

OUTRAGEOUS - Re:Breaking task scheduler changes in Windows 10 Anniversary Update (10.0.14393)

Thanks for the reply but.....

This is OUTRAGEOUS!
You shouldn't remove all support for a fairly recent version unless you offer a free upgrade to the latest version.
There is NO WAY I am going to pay for an upgrade since you may release version 8 in the near future and then I lose all support.

I am very disappointed and after many years of being a happy Syncback user, I am forced to move to a different company.
Goodbye.

I think I read somewhere that if you buy a V7 license (PRO or SE) this late in the V7 lifespan, then you will be entitled to a free upgrade to V8 when it is officially released!
(Can't find that information now, but I'm pretty sure I read it somewhere... Perhaps someone from 2BrightSparks can confirm that?)

My own V7 license is too old for a free upgrade, but I will gladly pay for a V8 license when it is released, because you cannot find a better backup software than SyncBackPro...

Note: previous reply above is a broken link now because the V8 BETA forum section is removed now (I guess, to avoid confusion with references to early-day settings that are different now and so on).

The upgrade process to V8 (if you already have an 'older model'') is now finalized, and can be found here in the 2BS Knowledge Base
