Restoring Backups with SyncBackSE

An Introduction to Restoring Your Data

There are two ways to restore files: using SyncBackSE or using another program. Unlike many other backup programs, SyncBackSE does not store the backup files in a proprietary format – all backup files are stored either exactly as they are or they are compressed (if compression is being used).

Even when compression is being used you can use 3rd party programs to access the backup files, e.g. WinZip. If your backup files are stored on an FTP server then any FTP client can be used, e.g. Internet Explorer.

Note

The important point to remember is that you do not need SyncBackSE to get your backup files. You always have the simple manual option of copying back whichever files you need to restore:

Restore operation

Being able to easily restore data is a core function of any backup program. Here are some example scenarios of when you'll want to run a restore operation:

You inadvertently delete a file and/or folder and need to recover it easily and quickly.

As you're working on a document, the parent program unexpectedly crashes and your work is gone. If you've setup a backup to run in the background, you'll be able to restore to the last backup point.

Your computer suffers a catastrophic failure, and you cannot access any files or folders. Having backed up onto an external drive or disk, you will be able to easily restore your valuable files onto a new computer.

Note

Remember: running a restore operation is not reversible.

The remaining part of this e-book assumes you've already installed SyncBackSE.

You can Download SyncBackSE at any time. When you've downloaded the file, double click 'SyncBackSE_Setup.exe' and follow the simple installation instructions.
