The Alzheimer's Disease Association
(ADA) was formed in 1990 as a result
of growing concern for the needs
of people with dementia and their
families in Singapore. ADA is a voluntary
welfare organization and is made
up of caregivers,
professionals and all who are interested
in dementia.
Dementia is an illness that affects
the brain, causing the brain cells
to die faster rate than normal. It
is not normal ageing. As a result,
the mental abilities of the person
with dementia decline. This leads
to failing memory, deterioration
of intellectual function and personality
changes.
The Alzheimer's Disease Association
in Singapore provides day
care for the elderly with dementia,
transportation service, physiotherapy,
occupational therapy, a counselling
service for carers and more.
