Customizing TrayOnClick
TrayOnClick is Beta Software
You accept the following three conditions when using beta software:
Note that support ticketing for beta software is restricted to informing 2BrightSparks of issues relating to TrayOnClick, and not to resolving issues. |
TrayOnClick provides useful settings that allow you to choose how Windows behaves when clicking standard window buttons.
Run TrayOnClick, right-click the program icon and select Settings from the sub-menu:

The TrayOnClick Settings window will now open:

Common Settings
The first tab in the Settings window shows Common Settings which can be customized in TrayOnClick.
The first settings allow you to choose the behaviour for hiding windows when right-clicking on the windows Minimize and Close buttons:
Minimize to tray: when TrayOnClick is running, right-clicking on a window minimize button will minimize the window to the Tray:

The following screenshot shows some windows minimized to the Tray in this way:
![]()
Hide: selecting this option will hide windows when right-clicking the minimize button. Your Tray may not show any program icons except for TrayOnClick as presented in the following screenshot:
![]()
Right-clicking the TrayOnClick icon in the Taskbar will quickly show the hidden windows:

"Minimize to tray" by left-clicking the Windows Minimize button: rather than using the right-click, you may want to change the default windows behaviour so that left-clicking the minimize button will minimize to the Tray.
Hide by right-clicking on the Windows close button: Windows will be hidden when right-clicking the close button.
Show pop-up windows for applications that are "minimized to the tray" or hidden: Checking this option ensures that any additional windows that appear in the usual running of a program, that is minimized to tray or hidden, continue to do so. If for example you minimize Internet Explorer to the tray and you chose to de-select this option, you would not see the pop-up windows appear if that web-page generated the pop-up.
Some programs like Microsoft Internet Explorer show the pop-up window automatically without any action from the user. By default TrayOnClick allows such an action for programs that are minimized to the tray or hidden. If you minimize such an application to the tray or hide it and that program presents a pop-up window (you feel frustrated because you do not know what program presents the pop-up window), de-select this option.

Deselect this option with care as program notification windows will not appear. |
Miscellaneous
Start TrayOnClick at Login: TrayOnClick will automatically start as soon as you log-in to Windows.
Skip Windows animation to minimize, hide, or restore Windows: When you minimize a window you will notice the window quickly "squashes" itself down to the Taskbar rather than simply disappearing. In other words, the window is animated when minimizing. When this option is selected in TrayOnClick, window animation will stop. This is a more efficient way of opening, minimizing, hiding, and restoring your windows. The hide and restore all functions for example will in this scenario be faster, especially if you have many windows open.
The next page of the help file will detail the Special Settings.
