Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
TrayOnClick is Beta Software
You accept the following three conditions when using beta software:
Note that support ticketing for beta software is restricted to informing 2BrightSparks of issues relating to TrayOnClick, and not to resolving issues. |
These FAQs aim to help you understand TrayOnClick better, and quickly solve any difficulties that you might encounter.
Q: My Windows have disappeared, how do I get them back?
A: Right click the TrayOnClick icon on the Taskbar (located on the lower right of your computer desktop). You may need to click the left facing arrow to show the TrayOnClick icon:

Now simply select Restore All and your Windows will return to the Desktop.
Q: Do I need Administrator Rights to run TrayOnClick?
A: No, TrayOnClick will run for any user of Windows, however TrayOnClick must be installed by a user with Administrator privileges.
Q: Can I disable TrayOnClick for a particular program?
A: Yes, read the Special Settings section which details how to achieve this.
Q: How do I stop TrayOnClick launching with Windows?
A: Run TrayOnClick, open the Common Settings window, then deselect the option Start TrayOnClick at Login.
Q: How do I tell whether a program minimizes to the Tray by default?
A: Make sure TrayOnClick is not running by holding down the Ctrl, Alt, and Delete keys simultaneously. This will open the Windows Task Manager. Click the Processes tab and make sure TrayOnClick is not listed. Close the Windows Task Manager window. Now browse to the program file in question and double click to run the program. Observe whether the program opens on the desktop, or whether it minimizes to the System Tray.
An alternative method would be to run TrayOnClick and define the program in question as among those in the Special Settings list. You could then ensure TrayOnClick did not effect the specific program's window and observe whether the program was minimized by default.
Q: Why is a program window showing in my Taskbar when I am running TrayOnClick?
A: When one of your programs has been defined in the Special Settings as not to be affected by TrayOnClick, the windows associated with that program will be shown on the Taskbar.
The backup and synchronization program SyncBackSE, also developed by 2BrightSparks, is minimized to the system Tray by default. The following screenshot shows the SyncBackSE icon in the Tray, and also the associated help file on the Taskbar. This occurs as we have chosen to allow pop-up windows in the Special Settings for this program:

Q: TrayOnClick seems to freeze or does not do what it should. Why?
A: TrayOnClick can conflict with other desktop managers if they are running on your system. For example the NVidia Desktop Manager prevents TrayOnClick drawing the minimization animation - when you click the minimize button on a Window the window doesn't disappear immediately by default, it quickly reduces in size to the task bar.
If you experience problems of this kind when using TrayOnClick your first step is to observe what other programs are running. You can easily check this by clicking the "Ctrl", "Alt", and "Delete" keys simultaneously on your computer keyboard. This will present the Windows Task Manager. Click the "processes" tab and you will see all the tasks that are currently running on your computer. If you have another desktop manager running you may need to disable that program when using TrayOnClick.
Q: How do I uninstall TrayOnClick?
A: Go to Start > All Programs > 2BrightSparks > OnClick Utilities > Modify or Remove OnClick Utilities and follow the instructions presented by the wizard.
|
You may easily update, install, or uninstall any OnClick Utilities program using modify or remove OnClick Utilities wizard interface.

Q: TrayOnClick does not work with Internet Explorer. Why?
A: In Microsoft Windows Vista (only in Vista, not in Windows XP), Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 runs in Protected Mode, which helps protect users from attack by running the Internet Explorer process with greatly restricted privileges. Protected Mode significantly reduces the ability of an attack to write, alter, or destroy data on the user's machine or to install malicious code. At the same time the Protected Mode in Vista prevents windows management applications like TrayOnClick from managing Internet Explorer 7 windows. At present there is one way to ensure TrayOnClick works with Internet Explorer 7 in Windows Vista: switch off Internet Explorer 7 Protected Mode. Here is how you can achieve this:
1) In Microsoft Windows Vista run Internet Explorer 7. In the Internet Explorer window status bar you will see text Protected Mode: On as shown in the screenshot below:

2) Double-click on the Protected Mode: On text and the following security settings window will appear:

3) Uncheck the Enable Protected Mode checkbox, click OK, and restart Internet Explorer:

After following the procedure detailed above, Internet Explorer will work with TrayOnClick.
Q: When I minimize the Windows Messenger to tray, why does the program minimizes into a second Windows Messenger tray icon?
A: The Windows Messenger program is using it's own tray icon and at the same time TrayOnClick is drawing a separate tray icon when the application is minimized to the tray.
Only use the main Windows Messenger tray icon if the Messenger program window is visible. If the main Messenger program window is not visible when you minimize Messenger to the tray use the tray icon that was created by TrayOnClick. If you find this approach confusing, add Windows Messenger to the special settings of TrayOnClick and disable the TrayOnClick functionality for it.
The above approach applies to all applications that use their own tray icon. If you wish to avoid the confusion then you may either change the program specific options so it does not use the tray icon, or add the program to the special settings of TrayOnClick and disable the TrayOnClick functionality for it.
