Customizing TrayOnClick

TrayOnClick is Beta Software

You accept the following three conditions when using beta software:

1.Some functionality of the beta program may not work appropriately.
2.The beta software may crash or even make your system unstable.
3.No refunds will be provided or liability accepted for difficulties using the beta software.

Note that support ticketing for beta software is restricted to informing 2BrightSparks of issues relating to TrayOnClick, and not to resolving issues.

TrayOnClick provides useful settings that allow you to choose how windows behave in specific programs.

Special Settings are available  in TrayOnClick when selecting the second tab of the TrayOnClick Settings window and relate to specific programs. A number of predefined programs are already subject to special settings as they are by default minimized to the system Tray when closed:

We will add the freeware Internet browser Firefox to our list. Click the New button, then browse to the program folder and select your program of choice:

Click the Open button. The TrayOnClick settings window for that particular program will open. Notice that by default TrayOnClick is not used for programs added to the Special Settings list:

Enter a name in the text field next to Application description. In this case we have entered Firefox.

For now we have accepted the default setting that TrayOnClick will not be used with this application. Click the OK button. Notice how Firefox has now been added to the special settings program list:

Now select Firefox from the list and click the Modify button.

The special settings window will open again for Firefox. This time click the option Use TrayOnClick for this application. Notice how the other TrayOnClick options now become active:

The options are similar to the Common Settings, however they are program specific:

Minimize to tray: when TrayOnClick is running, right-clicking on the windows Minimize button will minimize the Window to the Tray with the specified program.

Hide: selecting this option will hide Windows when right-clicking the minimize button with the specified program.

"Minimize to tray" by left-clicking the Windows Minimize button: rather than using the right-click, you may want to change the default Windows behaviour so that left-clicking the minimize button will minimize to the Tray with the specified program.

Hide by right-clicking on the Windows close button: windows will be hidden when right-clicking the close button with the specified program.

Allow hidden applications to restore themselves: some programs may restore themselves after a particular task. This option allows those windows to be restored to the desktop rather than remaining minimized or hidden.

note

Note that it may be important or useful for a program to restore itself. For example, you may be requesting a scan of some kind, and you may want to be informed by a window dialogue when the scan is complete.

Use caution when de-selecting this option.

The last section of this TrayOnClick guide will detail common questions and answers relating to the program.
