documentation on how to correctly filter sub-directories??

documentation on how to correctly filter sub-directories??

Postby tlyczko » Fri Apr 27, 2012 2:21 pm

I know filters can be made but I'm not sure how to correctly write what I need.

I'm backing up all the user directories from our file server.

The profile's source directory setting is

\\fp1\users -- which is everything in this folder, all our users.

This includes

\\servername\users\%username%\AppData\*.* -- I want to exclude each user's AppData folder.

Is this the correct filter syntax to exclude each user's AppData folder from the files backup??

Or should it be *\%username%\AppData\ ????

Thank you, Tom

Just borrow/adapt one of the standard exclusion filters in a default profile (unless you changed the default...), one of which is

*\AppData\Local\Temp\

Just change it to

*\AppData\

(and/or add one like that, whatever) if that's what you want.

You cannot use %username% in the Filters (it would evaluate to the username of whoever is running Pro, which would rather defeat your object). You need to use the initial wild-card to match the UNs, and trust that \AppData\ folders only occur inside (all) users' Windows-profiles (which should be the case)

The entries should always be relative to the base folders, thus they do not require & should not include any part of

\\fp1\users\

nor whatever your Destination is, either.

The default is unchanged.
Thank you for the suggestion.
I did see the one you mention but I thought I had to include the username wildcard.
I will add \AppData\ and observe what happens etc.
