Footer affecting new topic header
When I open a new topic I see a standard text showing the date and time. If I now select that I can overtype this and add new title to the document. That is until I turn on footers... When I do this then this seems to make this standard text behave differently and when I try and paste over it it now formats the text into a narrow table cell going down the page.
I'm sure I could find a way to turn of the default text for a new topic but my question is - why should having the footer on or off make a difference to the paste operation?

I can't answer the question directly but would suggest you turn off the date/time stamp (Settings>Workspace preferences>Program options then uncheck "Enable Informational Stamp") because overtyping it might conceivably be linked to your problem.
I hope this helps - and am sorry it's not a direct answer to your question.
