For conflicting file versions: copy both?
Hi all,
we set up a SmartSync-job with SyncBackPro to replicate data between a company's headquarter and a remote location. Files will be modified in both locations.
Things work fine as long as people don't change a file on both sides at the same time. For the time being, I don't see another option apart from calling both locations, asking them which version to keep, running the job manually and choosing the copy direction. This is far from workable.
Instead, I miss an option to duplicate those files (similarly as Windows Offline folders offers). The result would be that on both sides, Syncback creates something like this:
SomeFile(Berlin).docx
SomeFile(Hamburg).docx
Is there a chance to do that?
Thanks in advance,
Lennart

Not currently, no. I'll pass it to the development team, but as we have a 'top 500' ideas list at all times (really!), I wouldn't expect anything in the short-term, if at all

Re: For conflicting file versions: copy both?
Okay, I see. Still - thanks for your reply!
As far as I understand the help documents, the conflict will "resolve" if the file is changed on one side only the next day. Syncback will then copy this version to the other location. Of course, this means overwriting the older one.
Additionally, I enabled versioning on both sides - just to be sure. If someone calls, saying that his changes were overwritten, I can still get a former version out of the $SBV-folder.
Does that make sense?
Thanks,
Lennart

Re: For conflicting file versions: copy both?
Depends on your definition of 'resolve'. If you change the file on side-X yet again before the next run, by default it will win on the next run - but you just lost the changes on side-Y. But it will stop the conflict between the two sides (unless & until you change one or both of them again), yes.
I can't really give a more comprehensive guide to how it works (and your options) than the section in the Help for the the SmartSync version of the Decisions-Files page > 'When prompting, and the run is unattended, ignore the changes' (the actual Help section is captioned 'Ignoring Changes')

PS: Yes, Versioning will help. But bear in mind you'll get Versions of every change (also, deletions - we just treat deletion as a fairly drastic change
), not just the contentious ones
