Syncing ONLY changed files

Syncing ONLY changed files

Postby tdecurtins » Thu Jun 28, 2012 1:50 am

Hello I have done some searching on this and I am asking the people of this forum, how do I make syncback only sync changed files instead of running the whole profile when it sees a change in a file. Thank you for your input!

Hi

Do you mean it is scanning all files, or it is copying all files?

You cannot prevent it scanning all files that are in scope. The Change alert is just a trigger (same as if you clicked Run, etc). It will still scan all the files you have pointed it at c/o the Source and/or Destination (and subject to any de/selections in force). There is no facility to replicate 'only the change that happened to trigger the run'. Bear in mind it is possible more than one thing changed, but Windows only notified us of one of them: for example, maybe one file was deleted and another created, but we only get notified of the deletion: should we replicate the deletion, but not copy the new file? That could happen, if we don't scan.

If it is copying all files again, regardless of whether they have changed, you have a problem, and need to supply further details, including exactly what settings you have, what devices or services (etc) are involved? For example, this is a common issue with broken FTP servers, broken NAS boxes (or a combination of the two).

Yeah it is just scanning every time. I understand what you mean, its just that i sync it through an ftp server so it takes a few minutes haha but ill just let it scan.

Are you truly 'syncing' (copying stuff in both directions)?

If so, continue as you are (you must scan to find potential changes on FTP side)

If you are not, consider using Fast Backup in conjunction with Backup or Mirror profiles to generally (after run-1 as FB) avoid scanning the FTP side.

(Note that bit-based Fast Backup doesn't Mirror except on Rescans anyway - see the Help on Fast Backup page for why - but the standard FB method does)
