If you have a specific version in mind, you can specify it, and I can ask the developer if he's prepared to make it available, but generally we only make the current version available unless there's a very good reason for the converse. As you say the current version is working on your PC, it seems unlikely the syndrome is related to the version of SB, as I already pointed out

Thank you Dave - I don't have a specific version in mind - I'd say any version that 9 months old or older. But I'm sure you're right - it would seem to be a problem related to their machine.

I use SB between my WinXP desktop PC formatted NTFS and an external USB HDD formatted FAT32, then to my Win7 x64 laptop formatted NTFS, all with no problem.

I didn't want you to spend your time chasing ghosts that aren't relevant.

Thank you!!! I thought it might have been having trouble copying large folders and files.

My email folder that I backup with SB has 182 subfolders containing 25,579 files.

The largest single file I backup is 1,388,937,216 bytes - almost 1.4GB.

All with no problem. :)

True - 4gb is where you would run into problems.

Dave Wilkins wrote:Vista uses links, shortcuts & & 'labels' a lot, so that you get unexpected results. For example, try browsing to - and then, into - the (My?) Documents 'folder' under C:\Users\[username] and you'll likely get a surprise (both in SyncBack and in Explorer).

You may need to make several profiles, each pointing at one subfolder of the user profile - and you will likely need to use the username 'magic folder' (at the very top of the Browse tree - above 'Computer', IIRC) to get to the 'real' location. Make sure you can browse 'into' it - i.e, into a subfolder - if you can't, it won't work. Don't forget to browse back up a step if you succeed. If there are no subfolders inside the location you're aiming for that you can Browse into to check, follow exactly the same path in Explorer to make sure you can at least see files (which aren't visible in the SB path browser, so you won't know one way or the other).

Sorry, but I've dispensed with Vista (with relief :)), and even then I had it rigged to point to locations on a separate data drive to store documents (etc) in. (So that I could, if necessary, nuke the system drive from orbit and re-image it, etc, without affecting most of my data). I thus can't 'trace the same path' as you need to if I tried. Perhaps some Vista / freeware users might chip in with anything I've forgotten (or got wrong)

Ok, so the crazy conclusion to all this is that I went over to my folks house the other day and figured out that their WD My Book was no longer being recognized by the computer, so they were attempting (unknowingly) to back up onto their 2gb flash drive which for some reason was named "mybook" - that's why they were missing files/folders, etc.

I feel your pain. Tomorrow, I'm going to have to drive 5 hours round trip to my 86 year old in-laws to work on their PC. I have a remote access program installed so I can do most things remotely from home. Earlier this week, they had a DSL problem. Their ISP dispatched a tech to their home. Now, they can access the internet again, but the remote access program no longer connects. The tech changed some setting that messed up probably either the static IP address or the router port forwarding. Or, they reset their DSL modem back to factory defaults which blew me out of the water. AARRGGHH :x
