No new log files created
Hi,
Long time SB user, just installed it on a Windows 7 64-bit machine. This is my first time with Win 7, and I am getting problems with permissions (incidentally, tried SyncToy and it chokes on the same files), but that's a different story.
The problem is that, when I ran the profiles the first time, they created a log file each (HTML). However, subsequent runs do not create new log files. Instead, a dialog box states that there were problems with the profile (cf. permissions problems) so X files were not updated - and up pops the log file from the first time I ran SB on this machine! This is the same for all the profiles.
I tried switching to text logs, but there it does not create log file at all. After the profile has run, SB says it cannot find the log file, do I want to create it? I click yes, but it does not create any log file.
Checking the relevant folder in Windows Explorer confirms that the only log files created there are the ones created on the first run.
It is therefore hard to find out what files are problematic. In the interim, I actually run SB first and then SyncToy (which I find inferior), just because the latter at least lists the problem files!
Even though this works as a clunky workaround, I would still like full logs of what SB does, both what is working and what is not!

You may have have stumbled into the same issue I did a few weeks ago the first time I used SB on a Win7 PC and it indeed has to do with permissions.
Try this, use Windows Explorer to navigate to the SB Program Folder. On my Win7 PC its C:\Program Foles (x86)\2BrightSparks\SyncBack. Right-click on the SyncBack.exe program file and then left-click on Properties. Click on the Compatibility tab. Near the bottom, check the box that says Run this program as an administrator. Then click OK. Now try running SB.
This helped me get over many initial problems, but I still think I am hitting Win7 permission problems although I am not sure. The same profiles that worked fine between 2 WinXP PCs are not giving the same results between a WinXP & a Win7 PC. I'm still working on that but don't have it figured out yet.

One other thing I forgot to mention - after checking that option box, you will now get a popup window every time you run SB. It will ask, "Do you want to allow the following program to make changes to this computer?" Click on "Yes" and SB will then launch.
I have also started playing around with the User Account Control (UAC) settings to see what, if any difference it makes in the results I get running SB, but I don't have any firm results yet.
The files in the Libraries group (documents, etc.) seem to copy just fine. Where I am having trouble is copying files in places like a Program Files (x86) sub-folder where a particular program may store its database file. I am also having trouble with files in the C:\Users\UserID\AppData sub-folders. I get unpredictable results that don't make sense.
Good luck and let me know how you make out.

The problem is probably that the user (non-Admin) running SB has Permissions to create files in the SyncBack folder used by SB, but not to overwrite any (or similar). This would explain why it was permitted to create a log on the first run but is not permitted to overwrite it with a new one.
You'd either need to edit the Permissions for that folder, or the Run As Admin trick Gary A mentioned may get you overwrite Permissions anyway
