Hi
1) You're working on a false premise regarding the relationship between the free & commercial versions. SyncBack freeware is not the evaluation version of the commercial versions - it's a different (earlier) incarnation, and has many limitations over the commercial versions, and has a completely different user interface. You can evaluate the commercial versions for 30 days anyway

The differences are here

Do not uninstall the freeware or you will defeat the auto-profile import feature. SE imports from the freeware, Pro from SE, so if you want to try both - see below - install in the obvious order. If you only want to try Pro, you can uninstall SE afterwards. There is no automated process of importing profiles into Pro from the freeware, though you can manually export them from the freeware and manually import into Pro.
The SE & Pro versions can be installed in parallel with the freeware and/or each other. Do not install any 'model' to the same folder as another (just accept the default folders for an easy life). The SE & Pro versions will uninstall cleanly if you decide not to purchase. If you do decide to purchase, the serial number will unlock whichever version you decide to license. There is no need to uninstall the 'trial' and download a 'registered' version. Entering the serial number converts the former to the latter. Any version you decide not to keep will uninstall without affecting the version you do keep (if any).
(Note: any auto-profile import will not include the schedules (to avoid double-triggering). If you want to switch your scheduled profiles over, you need to delete them from the version where they were created and re-create them from the version where you want them. A manual export/import, on the other hand will include schedules (the export routine doesn't know you're exporting for the purposes of re-importing: could be as a backup, so it includes a copy of the schedule in the export package), so you'd need to manually delete duplicate schedules if you keep both copies of the profiles 'active', otherwise they'll clash / run twice)
2) You are hitting 'Access Denied' (Zugriff verweigert) errors. This is a Windows issue, and generally not something we can offer support for one-to-one (it's hard enough when you can see the settings involved, impossible when you cannot), but we do have a Knowledge Base article on it

Those particular files are part of Windows, and cannot be excluded in the freeware (if you try and copy the whole of C) because you cannot exclude at the root level or the file level (the commercial versions can...) but this brings up the issue of why you are trying to copy the whole drive? > > >
3) As per
http://www.2brightsparks.com/help/index ... rticle=148
none of our software is designed to back up an entire system (such that you could boot from or restore from that backup). You need imaging software for that. Our backup programs (all of them) are file-based data backup utilities, and are not designed to back up an entire system drive
Note that it's not the files that are described as Critical (SyncBack has no idea how important or otherwise a file is - a file is a file, as far as it is concerned) - it is the error that is Critical (could not copy)
I'm not sure why you are only copying the root files (and nothing in any folders)? That won't get you very far... but (as already mentioned) the product/s are not designed to copy system disks anyway

Failed to copy source: Cannot copy file (5)
Hi Dave and thanks for the very quick response. Firstly let me clear up myself a little. I am working n my own home computer and not a professional so reading digesting your extremely detailed response will take a little while.
Having lost many photos becasue i had not previously backed up my system (including all files), I believed that Synch BackUp would just copy every file onto a dedicated backup External Drive, not knowing or understanding the issues which you mentioned.
As I said in my first post, I was trying, and also knowing there is a 30 day trial period but having had bad issues with previous trial programmes, but having read many positive reviews, decided the freeware was the easiest option at this time before moving up to SE (Pro is nt for me - wayyyyy to techie)
However, it seems that I need to first read your answer thoroughly before proceeding further.
Once again, thanks for the very comprehensive reply to my question. Even now, on the face of it, I beleive your products look great and do work and i will be going with the SE.
Keep up the great work, but can you simplify replies for me please hahahahahha
