Cannot backup subfolders

Postby Goldfinger » Tue Jul 06, 2010 6:35 am

On trying to backup selected subfolders , it does not work
I selected to copy one main folder with many subfolders using the filter function in order to copy a subfolder which in turn holds subfolders
I will not copy the subfolders

The filters in the freeware do not support paths. You would maybe be better setting the Subdirs mode (beneath Destination on main screen) to 'Let me choose which subdirectories to include' and doing it from the Subdirectories tab

Note that the filtering and sub-directory de/selection are much more powerful in the commercial versions. If you wish to check these out, you can, as free 30-day trials are available

The differences are here

Do not uninstall the freeware or you will defeat the auto-profile import feature. SE imports from the freeware, Pro from SE, so if you want to try both - see below - install in the obvious order. If you only want to try Pro, you can uninstall SE afterwards.

The SE & Pro versions can be installed in parallel with the freeware and/or each other. Do not install any 'model' to the same folder as another (just accept the default folders for an easy life). The SE & Pro versions will uninstall cleanly if you decide not to purchase. If you do decide to purchase, the serial number will unlock whichever version you decide to license. There is no need to uninstall the 'trial' and download a 'registered' version. Entering the serial number converts the former to the latter. Any version you decide not to keep will uninstall without affecting the version you do keep (if any).

(Note: any auto-profile import will not include the schedules (to avoid double-triggering). If you want to switch your scheduled profiles over, you need to delete them from the version where they were created and re-create them from the version where you want them.

Cannot backup subfolders

I applied your suggestion. SyncBack worked at least 1 hour with a 2.8 Gb directory and failed to backup. Lots of files and directories were reported corrupted but they are OK.

Which suggestion? The usage of subdirectory selection, or the trial of the commercial version/s?

In any case, the issue now would appear to be related to errors in processing some files/folders, not in the choice of which to process? As you've given absolutely no details of the devices in question, nor the actual error messages, it's hard to speculate further. Bear in mind that SyncBack (of whatever flavour) issues all commands via Windows, and gets its error messages back from the device used through (and as 'translated by') Windows, so the problem may lie in the OS or the device. If you add up the number of users who don't report such a problem, it suggests this might be something in your system.

Cannot backup with the free version

I tested the pro version and it works fine.
The free version is prone to errors, thus not to be trusted
I wonder why U offer it as free ?

The freeware has some limits in functionality (for example, it does not support Unicode). Tens of thousands of people find it adequate for their needs, but you - and they - are obviously also free to look elsewhere.

We cannot begin to investigate any suggestions of a problem unless evidence is provided, such as exact error messages and a precise description of the infrastructure & systems involved.
